Dental Implants

Dental implants are an ideal option for people in good general oral health who have lost a tooth or teeth. Under proper placement and diligent patient maintenance, implants can last a lifetime. Dental implants look and feel much like your natural teeth. Implants can help prevent bone loss and gum recession that often accompanies bridgework and dentures. A dental implant is an artificial tooth root placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge in place. Implants can help save other teeth since implants do not rely on neighboring teeth for support. Dental implants are natural looking and feeling. Implants are secure and offer freedom from the irritating clicks, wobbles and pastes/glues of dentures.

Drs. Nygaard and Poovey use the latest technology to provide a complete digital work flow. This digital work flow allows Drs. Nygaard and Poovey to plan the implant placement location at the same time as the implant crown is designed, this helps to ensure both are done right. Drs. Nygaard and Poovey use the latest in intra-oral digital scanners and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) to see the bone and bone density under your gums. These digital files are merged in special software that allows the crown to be planned at the same time the implant placement is finalized. Once the case is planned it is sent digitally to a lab for creating the surgical guide, provisional (temporary teeth), and final crown.

Additionally, Drs. Nygaard and Poovey exclusively use Straumann dental implants. A recent study showed that Straumann implants are significantly superior to the leading competitors. The study was random study that looked at dental implants that had been place nine years previously. Nobel-Biocare and Astra Tech implants were more than 3 times as likely to develop peri-implantitis than Straumann dental implants. The study additionally found that all other brands were more than eight times likely to to develop peri-implantitis. That is statistically significant! Peri-implantitis is condition that may result in implant loss. Straumann dental implants are significantly better than the top competitors and are far superior to the cheap imitation implants that many dentists use. Not all dental implants are created equally. This video gives a brief summary of the independent study.

Choose the right dental implant and choose the right surgeon.

That same study also looked at who placed the implants; periodontists and oral surgeons or general dentists. Implants placed by general dentists had a higher incidence of peri-implantitis. Dental implants placed by periodontists and oral surgeons were more likely to have long term success with less complications.
